Trademark Licensing
Welcome!
Trademark licensing exists to promote and protect the logos and marks of the University of Northern Iowa and is administered by UNI University Relations and UNI Athletics.
A primary goal of the licensing program is to ensure the public can identify with and trust the quality of any product bearing official University of Northern Iowa marks. UNI has partnered with Affinity Licensing to help in the administration, protection and marketing of our program.
Information for Faculty, Staff & Students
Properly branded merchandise and apparel can help strengthen our audiences' connection with UNI. Please follow visual identity guidelines and the licensing procedures outlined below when planning for and designing these types of items.
Apparel & Promotional Item Artwork
An approved university logo should be included on apparel and promotional items ordered by university departments and programs. If you would like to order an item that has artwork limitations that do not allow for a full logo, please contact brand@uni.edu to discuss a solution.
Student orgs/clubs have the option of including some university logos and/or marks; find more info on the Guidelines for Student Organizations web page.
All apparel and promotional items that include university logos, trademarked words or phrases, and/or other protected element associated with the University of Northern Iowa visual identity must include the appropriate trademark symbol. That may be a ® or ™ symbol depending on the legal registration status of the trademark displayed.
Licensed Vendors
Any product that includes university logos, trademarked words or phrases, and/or other protected element associated with the University of Northern Iowa visual identity must be produced by a licensed vendor. For a searchable list of UNI vendors, please visit the link below and choose “University of Northern Iowa” from the drop-down list. Please contact licensing@uni.edu with any questions.
Artwork Approvals
Prior to production, all apparel and promotional item artwork must be submitted by licensed vendors to Affinity’s web-based licensing portal (called the Gateway) for university approval. Once approved, vendors should send a copy of the approval along with the invoice so UNI can complete the payment process. Please request this approval from vendors if they do not provide. If you have any issues, please let us know.
